Experienced Panthers gearing up for new season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's basketball program didn't lose a single player to graduation last season and with a large returning roster from a year ago, the program has big goals for the upcoming year.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Allison Flynn, the program announced its 2018-19 schedule today.
PSU will play a 25-game schedule, which includes 16 Little East Conference (LEC) games.
The Panthers entertain New England College to open the season on Nov. 9 (5:00 p.m.) to kick off Salute the Troops Weekend, before a stretch of eight straight games away from Foley Gymnasium. PSU travels to Green Mountain College on Nov. 12 (6:00 p.m.), ahead of the annual Boys & Girls Club Classic game against Rivier, played at NHTI, on Nov. 15 (6:00 p.m.). Plymouth State makes the trip to Northern Vermont University – Lyndon on Nov. 17 (3:00 p.m.), then a quick trip to Colby-Sawyer on Nov. 20 (5:30 p.m.).
The Panthers' final non-conference tune-up will take place at Lasell on Nov. 26 (7:00 p.m.), ahead of the LEC opener at Castleton on Nov. 28 (5:30 p.m.).
PSU closes the trip with conference games at UMass Dartmouth on Dec. 1 (1:00 p.m.) and Southern Maine on Dec. 5 (5:30 p.m.), before finally returning home for a date with conference opponent Eastern Connecticut State on Dec. 8 (1:00 p.m.) to close the fall semester.
Plymouth State returns from the holiday break for a non-conference home game against Westfield State on Jan. 3 (5:30 p.m.). PSU hosts Rhode Island College and Keene State in LEC contests on Jan. 5 (1:00 p.m.) and Jan. 8 (5:30 p.m.), then makes the trip to defending LEC champion UMass Boston on Jan. 10 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
The Panthers are back in league action on Jan. 12 (1:00 p.m.) when the team heads to Western Connecticut State, then visits NVU-Johnson for a non-conference tilt on Jan. 15 (7:30 p.m.). The Panthers return home for a conference game against Castleton on Jan. 19 (1:00 p.m.), before closing out January with three more LEC road games: at RIC on Jan. 23 (5:30 p.m.), at Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 26 (1:00 p.m.) and at Keene State on Jan. 30 (5:30 p.m.).
PSU closes out the regular season with a string of five straight games at Foley Gymnasium. Plymouth will host Western Connecticut on Feb. 2 (1:00 p.m.), UMass Boston on Feb. 6 (5:30 p.m.), UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 9 (1:00 p.m.) and Southern Maine on Feb. 13 (5:30 p.m.) for conference games, before wrapping up the regular season with a Senior Day game against Pine Manor on Feb. 16 (1:00 p.m.).
After a change to the LEC playoff format, the top six teams will qualify for the LEC Tournament, with the top two seeds receiving first round byes. Opening round games will be played at the higher seeds on Feb. 19, with the semifinals and championship game all being held on the campus of the top overall seed. Semifinals will take place on Feb. 22, with the title game set for Feb. 23.
