Emerson named Player of the Week after two dominant performances
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After a pair of dominant performances last week, senior Cassidy Emerson (Concord, N.H.) was honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) when the league announced its weekly award winners Monday afternoon.
Emerson was named LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Panthers to a split of a pair of LEC contests, recording huge double-doubles in both games.
On Wednesday she scored 12 points and matched a career-high with 17 rebounds as PSU outlasted Keene State, 57-52, in overtime. Her play helped the Panthers sweep the season series against the Owls for the first time since the 2002-03 season and snapped a string of 20-straight losses at Spaulding Gymnasium. She finished the game 5-of-8 from the field and secured the win with a clutch free throw in the final 20 seconds of the extra frame.
On Saturday, in a one-point loss to WestConn, she was even better finishing with 17 points and setting a new career mark with 18 rebounds while also dishing out four assists. It was her team-leading sixth double-double of the year.
The 5-7 guard ranks fourth in the LEC in rebounding with 8.1 boards per game, is eighth in steals (1.8) and appears in the top-20 in scoring average.
Plymouth State (9-12, 3-10 LEC) hosts the University of Massachusetts Boston on Wednesday (Feb. 6) on Play4Kay Night at 5:30 p.m.
