Cook named Rookie of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University women's basketball team to a win over Rivier University and scoring a career-high against Suffolk University, freshman Jalen Cook (Monkton, Vt.) has earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition by being named the Rookie of the Week.

Cook averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 40% from the floor in a 1-1 week for Plymouth State. She scored 12 points and added nine rebounds, one assist and a block as the Panthers topped Rivier, 62-50, on Tuesday, then followed with a career-best 17 points to go with seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in PSU's 72-61 setback at Suffolk on Saturday.

Cook has played a big role in the Panthers early success, coming off the bench to average 9.4 points per game, the third highest on the team. She has been clutch from three-point range, shooting an impressive 58.3% from beyond the arc – the third best percentage in the LEC. Cook's 5.4 rebounds per game are a team-high.

Cook's 17-point game against Suffolk was a result of great shooting by the freshman. She finished 5-of-10 from the floor, including an impressive 4-of-5 from distance, and connected on all three of her free throw attempts.

Plymouth State (3-2) looks to continue its strong start to the season on Tuesday (Nov. 26) against in-state rival Colby-Sawyer. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Foley Gymnasium.
