PSU Womens Ice Hockey falls to Norwich
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Senior Holly Manning (Northfield, Vt.) scored four goals and added two assists Tuesday evening to lead Norwich University over Plymouth State University, 12-2, in a women's club ice hockey contest at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Manning, who earned ECAC Player of the Year and Second Team All-America honors for the University of Southern Maine's varsity team in 2003, had a hat trick in the first period to help the Cadets to a 9-1 lead. Norwich went on to the easy victory to improve its record to 5-4, while PSU dropped to 1-2.
Sophomore Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.), playing against her hometown team, put PSU on the board at the 5:59 mark of the first period, with junior Holly Williams (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and freshman Jenna Lace (Pascoag, R.I.) picking up assists on the play. The Panthers added another goal in the final seconds of the second period, when freshman Katie Barany (Middlesex, Vt.) scored with an assist from junior Angela Potvin (Augusta, Maine).
Sophomore Danielle Lewis (Scarborough, Maine) held down the Panther net, making 17 saves, while two Norwich goalies combined for 18 saves.
Plymouth State is in its second season with a women's ice hockey program, with eyes on becoming a varsity program in the future.
PSU plays its final game of the first semester this Saturday at Bates College (4:00 p.m.).
