PSU Womens Ice Hockey skates past Russell Sage
ALBANY, N.Y. - Junior Laura Scala (East Falmouth, Mass.) registered a hat trick Friday evening to lead the Plymouth State University's women's ice hockey team past Russell Sage College, 9-2, at the Albany Academy Ice Rink.
PSU led 3-1 after one period, then took a commanding lead in the second frame with five unanswered goals. The Panthers, a first-year program, picked up their second win of the season, improving to 2-4 overall.
Scala led the way with her three goals, while junior Holly Williams (Wolfeboro, N.H.) finished with two goals and an assist. Freshman Katie Barany (Middlesex, Vt.) also scored a pair, classmate Katelyn Quint (Conway, N.H.) contributed a goal and an assist, freshman Jordan Mayhew (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) added a goal, and freshmen Missy Fales (West Kingston, R.I.) and Katelyn Robertson (Salem, N.Y.) chipped in with two assists apiece.
Maria Westbrook scored both goals for Russell Sage, a small college in Troy, N.Y.
Freshman goalie Ashley Haverly (Washington, Conn.) registered her first victory in the Panther net. Lisa Antal had a busy night in net for the Gators.
The Panthers return to action Saturday at MIT (5:30 p.m.)
