PSU Women’s Ice Hockey wins season opener in overtime

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Krista Pettrey (Williston, Vt.) scored a goal with less than a minute remaining in overtime Saturday afternoon to give the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team an exciting 4-3 victory over North Country Community College in the season opener at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

It was a close game the entire way, with three lead changes. NCCC scored the first goal, but PSU answered with two goals to take a 2-1 lead after one period. The visitors rebounded with the only two goals of the second period, regaining the lead, 3-2, heading into the final frame. The Panthers had the final say, scoring four minutes into the third period to tie it and adding the game-winner four minutes into the extra session.

Freshmen Kim Chandler (Andover, Mass.) and Julie Robida (West Hartford, Conn.) and senior Holly Williams (Wolfeboro, N.H.) joined Pettrey in the goal scoring department for PSU, and senior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.) assisted on both the game-tying and game-winning goals. Chandler, Pettrey, senior Angela Potvin (Augusta, Maine) and junior Sam Turner (Pawling, N.Y.) also collected assists.

North Country, which is from Saranac Lake, N.Y., got goals from Ashley Baker, Ericka Heath, and Christin Riley.

NCCC finished with a 45-36 advantage in shots. PSU freshman Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 42 saves in her collegiate debut, while Danielle Bevins made 32 saves for the Saints.

The next game for Plymouth State is Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Norwich University (7:00 p.m.) North Country hosts Norwich on Sunday, Dec. 4.
