Williams and Chandler lead PSU Womens Ice Hockey past UMass Amherst
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Senior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.) and freshman Kim Chandler (Andover, Mass.) each recorded hat tricks Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University's women's ice hockey team skated past the University of Massachusetts' ‘B' team, 11-1, at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Williams finished with four goals and two assists, while Chandler added three goals for the Panthers. Junior Krista Pettrey (Williston, Vt.) chipped in with two goals and one assist, and senior Holly Williams (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Holly Winchell (Atkinson, N.H.) contributed a goal and an assist apiece.
PSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the first period, and put the game away with three unanswered goals in the second frame. The visitors got on the board midway through the third period on a goal by Molly Bark.
Plymouth State finished with a 37-22 advantage in shots on goal. PSU freshman Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) stopped all three shots she faced over the first nine minutes, and sophomore Katelyn Quint (Conway, N.H.) came on to make 18 saves the rest of the way. UMA goalie Jessica Redmond made 26 saves.
PSU, 2-1 overall, is right back in action Sunday with a game at Sacred Heart JV (7:30 p.m.)
