CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.) scored two goals as Plymouth State University's women's ice hockey team twice rallied from a goal down Saturday night to pull out a 3-2 victory over the MIT Club team at the Johnson Athletic Center.
The Panthers, who had their Friday night game against the MIT varsity postponed due to snow, complete the first semester of action with a 3-2 record.
PSU fell behind 1-0 late in the first period, but Pettrey scored her first of the game at 16:43, a shorthanded marker with an assist from senior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.), to make it 1-1 after one frame.
MIT regained the lead midway through the second period, but PSU again responded. Freshman Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.) tied it with less than four minutes remaining in the period, with assists from Williams and freshman Kim Chandler (Andover, Mass.), and Pettrey's second goal with 2:11 to go in the period gave the Panthers their first lead of the game.
Both teams had opportunities in the third period, but could not score. PSU had more shots on goal than MIT in the first and third periods, and finished with a 33-25 advantage for the game.
Williams, Pettrey and Chandler are the team's scoring leaders through the end of the semester. Williams has six goals and seven assists, Pettrey is right behind with five goals and five assists, and Chandler has six goals and three assists.
