PSU Womens Ice Hockey edged by N.H. Lady Monarchs
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The New Hampshire Lady Monarchs U-19 Team scored a pair of goals 16 seconds apart early in the first period Saturday evening and held on for a 3-1 victory over Plymouth State University in a women's ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Lady Monarchs, who had defeated Plymouth State 9-2 earlier this season, took a 2-0 lead on goals by Jenny Smart at 2:48 and Allie Krause at 3:04 of the first period. The visitors had a 21-5 advantage in shots in the opening period, but held only a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Monarchs extended their lead to 3-0 at 2:44 of the second period on Jenny Smart's second goal of the game, but that turned out to be all of the scoring for the Monarchs.
Sophomore Molly Perron (Hartland, Vt.) put the Panthers on the board midway through the third period, with an assist from freshman Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.), but PSU couldn't break through again and the Monarchs held on for the win.
PSU freshman goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) had another busy night in the Panther net, making 41 saves.
Plymouth State completes the season with a 9-7 record. This was the third season for women's ice hockey at PSU, and the second year as an affiliate in the athletic department.
Senior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.) and junior Krista Pettrey (Williston, Vt.) finished as the team's scoring leaders. Williams recorded 14 goals and 16 assists while Pettrey ended up with 15 goals and eight assists.
