PSU Women’s Ice Hockey blanked by Castleton State

CASTLETON, Vt. - Castleton State College scored three power play goals in the first period to take a 4-0 lead Tuesday evening, and the Spartans never looked back en route to a 5-0 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's ice hockey action.

Katelyn Greene led the way for the Spartans with a pair of goals and one assist, and Vanessa Carter stopped 19 shots to earn the shutout. CSC is now 2-4-0 overall, while PSU fell to 1-3-0 overall and 0-3-0 in varsity games.

Greene put the Spartans on the board with an unassisted goal less than six minutes into the game. The sophomore forward collected her second with less than six minutes remaining in the period on the power-play. Castleton added two more power play goals late in the period to make it a 4-0 game.

After being outshot 17-3 in the first period, PSU regrouped and played better over the next two periods but couldn't push one in. Castleton had a 21-16 shots advantage over the final 40 minutes and scored the only goal on the power play late in the second period.

Special teams were key as Castleton State scored four power play goals in six tries while the Panthers came up empty on 10 opportunities. PSU sophomore goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) stopped 33 shots on the night.

Castleton State will host to Saint Michael's College next Tuesday, Nov. 28 in ECAC East action. PSU is back in action in the home opener at Waterville Valley Ice Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 29, against North Country Community College (6:00 p.m.)
