PSU Womens Ice Hockey blanked by SUNY Oswego
WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - SUNY Oswego got goals from eight different players Sunday afternoon at Waterville Valley Ice Arena and skated to an 8-0 victory over Plymouth State University to complete the non-conference women's hockey weekend sweep over the Panthers.
The Lakers, who defeated PSU 7-1 Saturday, improves to 5-4-1 overall with Sunday's triumph, while the Panthers fall to 1-6-0 overall and 0-5-0 in varsity games. Both teams are in their first season as a varsity program.
Oswego carried the play all afternoon, recording a 59-10 advantage in shots. The Lakers scored three power play goals on 12 attempts while holding the Panthers scoreless on four power play tries.
Freshman Shea Miller (Carrying Place, Ont.) led the Lakers with a goal and two assists, and freshman Jessica Zenzel (Johnson City, N.Y.) collected a pair of first-period assists to help her team take the lead. It was 3-0 Oswego after one period and 5-0 after two frames.
PSU sophomore goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) had another busy day in the Panther goal and finished with a season-high 51 saves. Freshman Erin Robson (Orillia, Ont.) stopped all 10 shots she faced for Oswego to earn the shutout.
Plymouth State is back in action Wednesday at Norwich (7:00 p.m.). Oswego returns home to host Elmira in a pair of games next Saturday and Sunday (3:00 p.m.)
