PSU Womens Ice Hockey defeated by Cortland State
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Sophomore Kalee Stoever (Pawling, N.Y.) scored three goals and assisted on another Wednesday afternoon to lead the Cortland State women's ice hockey team to a 5-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference game at Alumni Arena. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 1-10-1 on the season, while the Panthers fell to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in varsity games.
Cortland, which outshot Plymouth State 57-9 in the game, took a 3-0 lead after one period. Senior Cailin O'Hara (Rochester, N.Y.) opened the scoring when she put a rebound of junior Erin Fleury's (Glens Falls, N.Y.) shot past Panther sophomore goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) at five minutes, 53 seconds. Stoever netted her first of the game at 13:46 after she stole a pass and put in her own rebound. Four minutes later, Stoever picked up the assist on sophomore Heather Crowley's (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) rebound goal.
Stoever made it a 4-0 game in the second period on the power play as freshman Maggie Henty (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Janie Byrd (Auburn, N.Y.) set up her goal at the left side of the net. Stoever completed the hat trick with an unassisted short- handed goal at 18:11 of the third period when she stole the puck along the left boards, skated in alone on DeLorie and beat her with a high wrist shot.
DeLorie finished with 52 saves for the Panthers, while junior Olivia Nuzzo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stopped all nine shots she faced to earn the shutout for the Red Dragons.
PSU plays a home-and-home series this weekend against the University of Southern Maine. The teams will face off in Gorham, Maine, on Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and at Waterville Valley on Sunday (2:30 p.m.)
