PSU Women’s Ice Hockey blanked by Southern Maine

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Katie Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) tallied a pair of power play goals and added an assist Sunday afternoon as the University of Southern Maine skated past Plymouth State University, 4-0, in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

The Huskies completed the weekend sweep over the Panthers, adding Sunday's outcome to Saturday's 3-0 victory at the USM Ice Arena. Southern Maine improves to 5-9-0 overall, while PSU falls to 1-11-0 overall and 0-9-0 in varsity games.

Senior Caitlin Tassone (Arlington, Mass.) gave the Huskies the only goal they would need less than seven minutes into the opening stanza, knocking home a power play goal from Quartuccio and junior Amy McNally (East Waterboro, Maine). Quartuccio made it 2-0 with her first of the game at the 17:15 mark, with assists from Tassone and McNally.

After a scoreless second period, Quartuccio notched her second of the game and fifth of the season five minutes into the third period. Freshman Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal with just under five minutes remaining.

All of USM's goals were on special teams, with the Huskies going 3-for-6 on the power play, holding PSU scoreless on its six attempts with the player-advantage, and adding a short-hander.

The Huskies finished with a 49-8 advantage in shots. Sophomore Emily Barrett (Westport, Mass.) earned her first shutout by stopping all eight shots she faced, while sophomore Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) had another busy day in the Panther goal and finished with 45 saves.

PSU is back in action Saturday vs. Nichols College at Waterville Valley (6:00 p.m.). Southern Maine visits Trinity College for a doubleheader Friday (4:00 p.m.) and Saturday (12:00 p.m.)
