Norwich blanks Plymouth State in women’s ice hockey

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Sophomore Shana Ahearn (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored two goals and freshman goaltender Elisa LaRoche (Westford, Mass.) made 16 saves Wednesday evening to lead the Norwich women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.

The Cadets picked up their sixth consecutive victory to improve to 8-5-1 overall, while PSU dropped to 2-12-0. Norwich, which had defeated PSU 4-2 earlier this season, will become a varsity program next year and will join Plymouth State as the two new members of the ECAC Women's East Conference.

Sophomore Sophie LeClerc (Barre, Vt.) scored the only goal of the first period for Norwich with just 36 seconds remaining in the stanza, an unassisted power play goal. Ahearn tallied consecutive power play goals for the Cadets in the middle frame to make it 3-0, and freshman Maura Kee (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the winners with seven minutes remaining in the third period.

Norwich finished with a 40-16 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) had another busy night in the Panther net, making 36 saves.

PSU travels to Cambridge, Mass., this weekend for a two-game series at MIT (7:00 p.m. on Friday, 3:00 p.m. on Saturday). After three straight road games, Norwich returns home to host UMass Amherst Friday at 8:00 p.m.
