Bethel skates past PSU Womens Ice Hockey
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Senior Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Grand Rapids, Minn.) registered two goals and three assists Monday afternoon to lead Bethel University to a 6-1 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference women's ice hockey game at the Bethel University Arena.
The Royals had their second-highest scoring output of the season to pick up their first win of 2009, improving to 4-6-2 overall. PSU dropped its third and final game on the Minnesota road trip and fell to 0-10 on the season.
Senior defenseman Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.) scored the only goal for the Panthers, a power-play marker late in the third period, Kreamer's first goal of the season.
Bethel led 2-0 after the opening period on goals by senior Sandra Felten (Cashton, Wis.) and Murphy-Aultman. Sophomore Allison Papko (Winnipeg, Mani.) extended the margin to 3-0 with a second-period goal, and the Royal put the game away with three unanswered goals in the final period.
PSU senior goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) had another busy day, making 46 saves in 50 minutes between the pipes. Freshman Nicole Provencher (Guilford, Conn.) came on and played the last 10 minutes and made 10 saves without allowing a goal. The home team had a 62-18 advantage in shots on goal.
The Panthers return to New England to play a pair of ECAC East home games this weekend at Waterville Valley, hosting Norwich Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Castleton Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
