CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman Kameron Klauber set team records with five goals and seven points Friday night, including the first three tallies of the game, as the MIT women's ice hockey team defeated Plymouth State University, 8-0, in ECAC East action at the Johnson Ice Rink.
Senior captain Stephanie Brenman broke the Institute record with four assists on the night while the eight total goals were also the most in program history. The Engineers improved to 3-9-1 on the season, with all three wins coming at the Johnson Ice Rink. Plymouth State falls to 0-13-0.
Klauber recorded a natural hat trick to open the game, scoring three times in the first 20:28 of the game and contributing on the Engineers' first six goals. She gave Tech an early lead just 2:47 into the contest with assists by Clarion Hess and Brenman. Her second tally came after a sensational individual effort, slicing through three defenders for the unassisted goal. Brenman assisted again with only 28 seconds gone by in the second as Klauber completed the hat trick.
Klauber tied the points record assisting, along with Clarion Hess, on Rebecca Milson's goal 1:12 later. A pair of records would fall on Klauber's fourth goal and fifth point (from Cathering Harding) with 15:02 remaining in the second period. Connie Lu became the third player to find the back of the net, as Brenman and Klauber figured in on the scoring yet again. Harding (from Lauren Kazmierski and Lu) was the fifth Tech player to pick up multiple points on a marker late in the frame.
Klauber played a part in setting one more program high early in the final stanza, as her fifth goal of the night set a new standard for team scoring in a game. Brenman's helper on the play placed her into the record book as well.
Rachel Bowens-Rubin stopped 21 shots to pick up the shutout in net for the Cardinal and Grey. Senior Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 29 saves for Plymouth State in the losing effort.
The Engineers will look to build off this success Saturday when they host Southern Maine at 3:00 p.m. Plymouth State plays at St. Michael's Saturday also at 3:00 p.m.
