PSU Women’s Hockey player honored by ECAC
Ponte named to Women’s East Weekly Honor Roll
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalie on the Plymouth State University women’s ice hockey team was recognized Monday with selection to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East Weekly Honor Roll.
Freshman Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Hill/Stouffville Jr. Stars) is PSU’s first selection to the ECAC Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Panthers in two games last week. She helped the Panthers to their first point of the season last Friday with a tie at Castleton.
A 5’4” freshman goalie, Ponte (right) made 28 saves in the 2-2 tie last Friday at Castleton, including a game-preserving stop on a Spartan breakaway with 3:45 remaining in the third period. She also made 43 saves in a 6-2 loss Saturday at New England College, keeping the Panthers in the game until late in the third period. She finished the week with a .899 saves percentage and a 3.84 goals against average.
Plymouth State, 0-4-1, continued its streak of scoring exactly two goals in a game, which they have done in all five outings this season. PSU is home for its next three contests at Hanaway Rink, beginning with a weekend set on Dec. 3-4 against Holy Cross and Salve Regina.
