Top weekly honor for PSU Women’s Hockey player
Ponte named ECAC East Goalie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalie on the Plymouth State University women’s ice hockey team was honored by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Monday for her performance in a pair of Panther league games last weekend.
Freshman Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was named ECAC Women’s East Goalie of the Week. This marks the second honor Ponte has received this season, as she was a conference honor roll selection once back in November.
A 5’4” freshman, Ponte helped PSU to a 1-1 record last weekend, including a 2-0 victory Castleton for its first win of the season and the first shutout victory in the program’s history. She made 23 saves in a 3-0 loss to New England College on Friday evening, and came back to stop all 22 shots she faced in Saturday’s triumph over Castleton. In the two games, Ponte combined for a 1.50 goals against average and a .938 saves percentage.
A starter in 21 of PSU’s 22 games this season, Ponte ranks second in the ECAC East in minutes played (1205) and first in total saves (688).
Plymouth State wraps up the season this Friday with a conference road game at Salve Regina University.
