Buffalo State blanks PSU Women’s Hockey

Crandle makes 27 saves for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Christine Williams and freshman Jeyna Minnick registered a goal and an assist each Saturday afternoon as Buffalo State College defeated Plymouth State University, 3-0, in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink.

Sophomore goalie Jordan Lee made 16 saves for the Bengals to post her second shutout of the season.  She helped the Bengals even their overall record at 5-5-2, while PSU dropped to 0-5-3.

The Bengals got on the scoreboard on their first shot less than a minute into the game.  Williams took a pass from classmate Brianna Murphy behind the Panther net, walked in front and slid a shot between the goalie and the left goal post for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. PSU settled down and that ended up as the only goal of the first period.

Buffalo State extended the margin to 2-0 midway through the second period when junior Courtney Carnes knocked in a rebound near the right post for her third of the season.  Minnick closed out the scoring with her third goal of the weekend and sixth of the season three minutes into the third period.

PSU managed only 16 shots in the game, including four by senior Jaimie Camara but couldn't get one past Lee.  Sophomore Nicole Crandle made 27 saves in the Panther goal.

Both teams came up empty on the power play, Buffalo State on nine attempts and Plymouth State on nine tries.

Saturday marked the end of the first semester as the Panthers break for final exams and the holidays.  PSU will be back on the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 4, for a home game against Williams College.  Buffalo State plays a game Sunday at Castleton on its way back to New York before beginning its midseason break.
