Ephs too strong for Panthers

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Kristen Tubbs scored three goals Wednesday afternoon to lead Williams College to a 9-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference women's ice hockey game at Hanaway Rink.

            Sophomore Gabrielle Vukasin added two goals and an assist for the Ephs, while senior Hannah Systrom chipped in with a goal and three assists and sophomore Ally Ensor also collected three assists.  Freshman goaltender Chloe Billadeau needed to make only three saves for her first career shutout as Williams (3-5-0) out-shot the home team, 42-3.

            The Ephs jumped ahead 2-0 in the first period, with Tubbs scoring first at 4:11 and junior Sam Weinstein following with a power play goal at 10:16.  The margin was extended to 5-0 with a three-goal second period, as sophomore Cristina Bravi tallied her third goal of the season at 2:51 and Vukasin and Tubbs followed with goals in a five-minute span.

            Williams poured it on in the third period with four goals, including three on the power play.  Systrom notched her first goal of the season at 13:36; Vukasin followed with her team-leading 10th of the season at 15:02; freshman Andree Heller chipped in with her second at 17:23, and Tubbs finished off her hat trick at 18:24.

            PSU sophomore Ali Ponte drew the start in the PSU goal and made eight saves before departing midway through the first period.  Sophomore Nicole Crandle came on and made 25 saves the rest of the way.

            The Panthers (0-6-3), who have played their last seven games on home ice, will hit the road this Saturday with a non-conference affair at Castleton State College (3:00 p.m.)  Williams plays a NESCAC doubleheader Friday and Saturday at Trinity College.
