Panthers to face Stevenson in consolation game
BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Michelle Greeneway tallied two goals and one assist Thursday afternoon as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated Plymouth State University, 5-0, in the semifinals of the Codfish Bowl Tournament at the University of Massachusetts Boston's Clark Athletic Center Ice Arena..
Plymouth State got an outstanding performance from junior goalie Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) as Lake Forest out-shot Plymouth State 69-16. Ponte made a career-high 64 saves, including all 18 in the second period.
Lake Forest will face the host Beacons in the championship game of the tournament Friday at 4:00 p.m. Plymouth State will face Stevenson University (Md.) at 1:00 p.m. in the consolation game.
The Foresters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, scoring their first two goals in less than a minute span by Greeneway and senior Jenn Caldwell. Their third tally came at the 17:39 mark when Emily Wybo scored her second goal of the year.
After nearly 31 minutes of scoreless action, the Foresters sealed their win on a Melissa Paluch goal in the third period, her fifth of the campaign. Greeneway closed out the contest with her fifth goal of the year two and half minutes later off of a Paluch assist.
Both squads closed out the contest 0-for-2 on the power-play. Stacey Dierking earned her first win of the year between the pipes for Lake Forest after stopping all 16 Panther chances.
