PSU Women’s Hockey player named to ECAC Honor Roll
Ponte honored for Panthers after strong play at Codfish Tourn.
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goaltender on the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was recognized Monday by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) for her performance in a pair of Panther games last week.
Junior Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was named to the ECAC Women's East Weekly Honor Roll. She provided the Panther highlights in a pair of losses last week at the Codfish Bowl Tournament hosted by the University of Massachusetts Boston.
A 5'4" junior netminder, Ponte was named to the All-Tournament Team last week at the Codfish Bowl Tournament. She made 97 saves on 105 shots (.924) in the two-day tourney, including a career-high 64 saves in Thursday's loss to Lake Forest (Ill.) and 33 saves on 36 shots in Friday's loss to Stevenson (Md.)
Monday's recognition marks the fourth time in her career that Ponte has received a weekly honor from the ECAC. A three-year starter, she was the ECAC Goalie of the Week and earned an Honor Roll selection once each as a freshman and was a Goalie of the Week again last season.
Ponte has a 4.15 goals against average on the season and leads the team with a .911 save percentage.
Plymouth State, 2-9-0 overall and 1-5-0 in conference games, will look for its first win of 2013 this weekend when the Panthers return to ECAC East action with a home-and-home series against the University of Southern Maine.
