PSU Women’s Ice Hockey goalie earns weekly recognition
Ponte named to ECAC East Honor Roll
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalie on the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was honored Monday with weekly recognition from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Junior Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was named to the ECAC Women's East Weekly Honor Roll after her efforts in PSU's only game last week. She has been a key player for PSU as the Panthers strive for their first ECAC East play-off berth.
A 5'4" junior netminder, Ponte made 33 saves on 34 shots in a 1-1 tie with New England College. She made 12 saves in the third period to help PSU kill three out of four NEC power plays, helping preserve the deadlock.
Monday's recognition marks the second time this season and fifth time in her career that Ponte has received a weekly honor from the ECAC. A three-year starter, she was the ECAC Goalie of the Week and earned an Honor Roll selection once each as a freshman and was a Goalie of the Week again last season.
Ponte has a 3.39 goals against average on the season and leads the team with a .916 save percentage.
Plymouth State, 4-15-3 overall and 3-9-3 in conference games, wraps up the regular season this week with three ECAC East games – Tuesday at home vs. Castleton, Friday at Saint Anselm College and Saturday at UMass Boston. PSU can clinch its first play-off berth with one win this week.
