Saint Anselm soars past PSU Women’s Ice Hockey
Panthers wrap up regular season Saturday at UMB
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Kathryn Picarello (West Roxbury, Mass.) set Saint Anselm College single-game records for points and assists Friday afternoon, including her 100th career point, as the Hawks shut out Plymouth State University, 11-0, at Sullivan Arena.
The Hawks improve to 16-4-4 on the season, including 11-2-4 in ECAC East play, while the Panthers fall to 4-16-4, 3-10-4 ECAC East. The two teams had tied the first meeting this season, 4-4.
Picarello became the third player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau. She recorded the hat trick with three goals, in addition to handing out six assists, which broke the previous record of four that was set by multiple Hawks. Her nine points shattered Cindy Lebel's record of five that came against Salve Regina on Feb. 21, 2006.
Saint Anselm led 3-0 after one period, and doubled the lead in the second frame before tacking on a half dozen in the third period. The Hawks out-shot the Panthers 50-8 in the contest. PSU junior goaltender Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was peppered with 44 shots in 46 minutes before giving way to junior Nicole Crandle (Bristol, Conn.), who made five saves on six shots in the final 13 minutes.
Junior goaltender Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) stopped all eight shots she faced for the home team for her fourth shutout of the season.
Both teams wrap up the regular season on Saturday, as the Hawks host the University of Southern Maine at Sullivan Arena and the Panthers travel on to the University of Massachusetts Boston.
