PSU Women’s Ice Hockey Coach named Coach of the Year
Kilstein guided Panthers to ECAC playoffs in second season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The head coach of the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was honored Friday by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) on the eve of the program's first post-season appearance.
Panther head coach Ashley Kilstein was voted ECAC Women's East Coach of the Year by her peers. Kilstein, now in her second season at PSU, led the team to its most successful season in the seven years as a varsity program, which included a program-best five wins and four ties. The Panthers finished in eighth place this winter with a 4-10-4 conference record, will make their first ECAC playoff appearance Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. face-off at top-seeded Norwich University (19-3-3, 16-2-0).
Hopes are high for the Panther women's ice hockey program under Kilstein, a former standout player and captain at Union College (N.Y.). This year's PSU team has just one senior so the bulk of the squad will be back for next season. The Panthers also had 14 players named to last year's ECAC All-Academic Team.
