PSU Women’s Ice Hockey goalie earns All-Conference recognition
Ponte receives All-ECAC East Honorable Mention
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalie on the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was recognized for her outstanding season Thursday with selection to the All-Conference team for the 2013-14 campaign.
Senior Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ont.) received Honorable Mention on the 2013-14 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East Ice Hockey All-Conference team. Ponte becomes the first Panther player in the program's seven years in the ECAC East to receive post-season honors.
A 5'4" netminder, Ponte has posted a 2.73 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and two shutouts in 22 games this winter. She ranks second in the conference with 606 saves, including nine games with at least 30 saves and four outings with at least 40 stops. She is currently on pace to break her own single-season school records for goals against average (3.63) and save percentage (.914).
Ponte is also etching her name on the PSU career record books. She is on target to set new marks for GAA (4.08) and Save Pct. (.893) and ranks 50 saves shy of the Panther career saves mark of 2,575 held by Lindsay DeLorie (2006-09).
Ponte will lead Plymouth State, 5-18-2 overall and 3-11-2 in conference games, this Saturday as the seventh-seeded Panthers travel to second-seeded Salve Regina University for the opening round of the ECAC Women's East playoffs (7:00 p.m.)
