Saint Anselm dumps PSU Women’s Ice Hockey

Branovan scores late goal for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.) and freshman Kaitlin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) scored two goals apiece Saturday afternoon as Saint Anselm College defeated Plymouth State University, 7-1, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East Ice Hockey game at Hanaway Rink.

Quinn also added a pair of assists to her offensive total and now leads the Hawks in scoring with nine goals and seven assists.  Sophomores Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.), Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) and Martha Findley (Duxbury, Mass.) also scored for the visitors as Saint Anselm improves to 9-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Haley Branovan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a late third-period goal for PSU to break up the shutout, but the Panthers dropped to 2-13-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the ECAC East.

Saint Anselm took control of the game with four unanswered goals in the first period. Quinn stuffed the puck inside the right post less than three minutes into the game to opening the scoring, and Spillane made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 5:25, flipping a rebound past the goalie's blocker just inside the left post. Findley scored her first goal of the season on a shot from the point through traffic at the 12:25 mark to extend the margin, and Butler closed out the first-period scoring at 18:43 with a wrister that went top shelf, stick side.

Quinn tallied her second of the game less than two minutes into the second period with a wrist shot over the goalie's glove, and Spillane made it 6-0 midway through the frame with a roof shot from the goal line. Starzyk scored the final Saint Anselm goal on a rebound with six minutes remaining in the third period.

Senior Lindsey Brown (Mounds View, Minn.) earned the win in the Hawks' goal with 19 saves. Junior Alyssa Altschuler (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Mariah Trupp (Topeka, Kansas) split time in the PSU goal, with Altschuler making 30 saves on 34 shots in 43 minutes and Trupp making five stops on eight shots in a little more than 16 minutes.

Both teams continue ECAC East conference action next Friday as PSU visits Manhattanville College and Saint Anselm travels to Castleton State College.
