Lindqvist honored for strong season in Panther goal

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goaltender on the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was honored Thursday for her outstanding rookie season in a Panther uniform.

Freshman Emelie Lindqvist (Gullerason, Sweden) was named to the by the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) All-Rookie Team. Lindqvist took over as the starting goaltender for PSU this season and helped the team to the best record in its 10-year history.

A 5'3 netminder, Lindqvist has posted a 9-9 overall record with a 2.30 goals against average, a .921 save percentage and four shutouts.  Her nine victories is a new program standard and she is on target to break the PSU single-season mark for save percentage.

The Panther rookie ranks 13th in the NEHC in goals against average and third among freshmen, and ranks 14th in save percentage, fifth among newcomers. Only five goalies in the league logged more minutes between the pipes than Lindqvist.

The Panthers (10-15 overall, 6-11 NEHC) are the #7 seed in the NEHC Tournament, which begins this Saturday with quarterfinal match-ups; PSU will travel to #2 seeded Castleton University for a 4:00 p.m. face-off. The Spartans defeated the Panthers 4-1 in Plymouth on Jan. 15, but PSU upset nationally-ranked Castleton 3-2 at Spartan Arena on Feb. 6.
