Lindqvist named Co-Goaltender of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After a stellar weekend, the starting goalie for the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was recognized by the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) with weekly honors.

Junior Emelie Lindqvist (Gulleråsen, Sweden) was named the NEHC Co-Goaltender of the Week, earning weekly recognition for the fifth time this season.

Lindqvist turned aside 29-of-30 shots in a huge win over the University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday night. After cutting the PSU lead to 2-1 in the second period, the Beacons had three power play opportunities over a 12-minute stretch but Lindqvist and the Panther penalty kill unit held firm. Plymouth added an insurance marker in the third period to earn a 3-1 win.

On Saturday, Lindqvist came off the bench to stop all 13 shots she faced over the final 40 minutes as the Panthers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Salve Regina University. After a PSU tripping penalty at the 17:35 mark of the third period the Seahawks pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage. Lindqvist made several spectacular saves, including one during a 1-on-0 breakaway with just three seconds to play, to preserve the win.

The four points were enough to secure the fourth seed for the upcoming NEHC Tournament, easily the highest regular season finish in program history. Plymouth State (8-13-4, 7-5-2 NEHC) will host the University of New England in its first-ever home playoff game on Saturday night (7:00 p.m.).
