Fagan named Player of the Week after breakout game
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The all-time leading scorer for the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team was recognized by the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) on Monday as the league announced its weekly award winners.
Senior Alexis Fagan (Burrillville, R.I.) was named the Player of the Week after exploding for three goals and four points as the Panthers soared past NCAA Division I Saint Michael's College, 8-3, in their lone game last week.
The hat trick was a career first for Fagan, who also matched a career best with her four points. She opened the scoring less than four minutes into the first period when she skated through the Purple Knights' defense and fired a wrist shot from the right circle low to the blocker side for an early 1-0 lead. Her second goal made it a 4-1 game after skating in alone and beating the St. Michael's goalie top-shelf, and she sealed the milestone with an empty net tally in the final minute of action. She added an assist on the team's seventh goal.
Fagan's six goals lead the Panthers and are the third most in the NEHC, while her seven points are the second most on the team. She has notched the game-winning tally in two of PSU's three wins and her 28 career goals are a program best. She also sits just four points shy of the program record for career points.
Plymouth State (3-5-0) gets back into NEHC action at Castleton on Friday (Dec. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
