PSC Women's Lax ousted From NEWLA Tourney

HENNIKER, N.H. - Junior Tilea Warren (Amherst, NH) scored her fifth and sixth goals of the game, breaking a 10-10 tie and giving New England College an 11-9 victory over Plymouth State College Friday in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Northern Division title game.

The win puts NEC in the NEWLA championship game Sunday in Henniker against Eastern Connecticut, the Southern Division champion. This is the inaugural year for the NEWLA Alliance. NEC will take a 12-4 record into Sunday's final, while PSC takes a 9-6 record into Saturday's season finale at Middlebury College (1:00 p.m.).

Trailing 7-5 at the half, the Panthers overcame a four-goal second half deficit (9-5) to tie the game. Senior Danielle Paradis (Londonderry, NH), who finished with a PSC team-high four goals, evened the score at 9-9 with 12:27 remaining, but Warren pumped in goals with 7:07 and 5:01 remaining, and NEC held on for the win.

In addition to Paradis' four goals, senior Carrie Killeen (Greenfield, MA) and freshman Courtney O'Sullivan (Kingston, NH) scored two goals apiece and sophomore Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) added one. Freshman goalie Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) registered 19 saves for the Panthers.

"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half," said PSC coach Wynn Hohlt, "and we couldn't get out. We played much better in the second half, but the first half killed us."

The Pilgrims also got three goals from senior Courtney Lockhart (Pittsburgh, PA) and one apiece from junior Emily Frawley (Milton, MA) and freshman Jamie Jackman (New London, NH).

The Panthers, 9-6 overall, have tripled the number of wins the team had last season, when they finished 3-14.
