PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) scored seven goals Thursday to lead Plymouth State College to a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over the University of New England in a battle of unbeaten New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance teams.
The win improves PSC to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in NEWLA games, while UNE falls to 4-1 and 1-1.
The Panthers trailed the Nor'easters 6-5 at the half, but scored twice in the opening minute of the second half to take the lead. UNE then scored three straight to take a 9-7 lead, but the Panthers answered with five unanswered goals to take an insurmountable 13-9 lead with 11 minutes remaining.
Conner added two assists to her seven goals. Classmate Robin Hartman (Rreistertown, MD) added two goals and two assists, and junior Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) added a goal and two assists. Senior Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) and junior Allison Beaumier (Nottingham, NH) also scored once for PSC.
The Nor'easters were led by sophomore Nancy Silva (East Meadow, NY) and senior Meg O'Brien (Longmeadow, MA), who scored four goals apiece. Senior Annie LaRochelle (Plaistow, NH)and Michelle Morales (Topsham, ME) and freshman Abby Burget (Madison, CT) added solo tallies for UNE.
PSC sophomore goalie Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) registered 13 saves, while UNE junior Karen Dorer (Rockaway, NJ) made nine saves.
The Panthers play non-conference road games the next two days - Friday (Apr. 9) at MIT (4:00 p.m.) and Saturday (Apr. 10) at Bridgewater State (1:00 p.m.).
