PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 12-2 first half lead Monday, and went on to earn a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance victory over Castleton State College 17-5 at Arold Field.
The Panthers improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in NEWLA games, while Castleton drops to 1-2 and 0-1.
A pair of freshmen paced the Panther offense as Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) and Robin Hartman (Reistertown, MD) combined for nine goals and an assist. Conner netted five goals while Hartman scored four goals and an assist. Ali Hoffman (Hancock, NH) added two goals and both Jessica Shapiro (Windsor Locks, CT) and Cathleen Yackenchick (Greenfield, MA) added a goal and an assist. Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH), Courtney O'Sullivan (East Kingston, NH), Erin Fitzgerald (Mansfield, CT) and Renee Grasso (Billerica, MA) each scored a single goal.
The Spartans were led by freshman Meghan Kennedy (Rutland, VT), who scored four goals for the second straight game. Vanessa Macia (Woodstock, VT) added a goal and Miche Chamberlain (Woodstock, VT) contributed an assist.
CSC goalie Erin Martin (Hollis, ME) registered four saves, while PSC goalies Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) and Brenna Matarazzo (Salem, NH) combined for five saves.
The Panthers travel to Endicott for a 4:00 p.m. game on Wednesday (Apr. 14) before returning home for a NEWLA match with arch-rival Keene State College at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday (Apr. 15).
