PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Colby College freshman Angela Pappas (Gwynedd Valley, PA) scored six goals Saturday, spoiling the last regular season home game for Plymouth State College as the White Mules took a 20-5 women's lacrosse decision from PSC at Arold Field.
Colby held a 3-2 lead nine minutes into the game, but scored seven unanswered goals to take a 10-2 advantage into halftime. The White Mules extended their lead to 17-2 before PSC got on the board again with nine minutes left to play.
With the win, Colby gets back on the winning track and improves to 7-5, while PSC drops to 9-4.
Pappas' six markers increases her team lead to 26 goals this season. She got offensive assistance from five teammates who scored two goals apiece -- Allison Birdsong (Greenwich, CT), Katie Lee (West Newton, MA), Marcia Ingraham (Georgetown, MA), Abby Healy (Freeport, ME), and Emily Etchells (Middlebury, VT).
Plymouth State got one goal apiece from five different players - sophomores Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, ME) and Courtney O'Sullivan (East Kingston, NH), junior Faith Wahlen (Hamstead, NH) and freshmen Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) and Robin Hartman (Reisterstown, MD).
Colby goalie Mary Zito (Manhasset, NY) made 14 saves for the White Mules, while PSC starter Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) was credited with nine saves, and reserve Brenna Matarazzo (Salem, NH) made two stop in her six minutes of action.
The Panthers play their final regular-season contest Sunday (Apr. 25) at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). PSC will then host Keene State on Wednesday (Apr. 28) in the opening round of the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance play-offs at Arold Field (4:00 p.m.).
