PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State College women's lacrosse team have been selected to the New England Women's Lacrosse All-Alliance Team, as voted by the head coaches of NEWLA.
Senior Sam Guthrie (Falmouth, Mass.) and junior Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) earned the honor, Beedy as an offensive player and Guthrie on defense. It is the second season in a row that both Panther stars have been named to the All-Alliance team.
The twosome helped PSC register a school record for victories in a season, as the Panthers completed the campaign with a 12-5 record under first-year head coach Abby Burbank.
A three-year veteran on defense, Guthrie led a Panther defensive unit that allowed just 9.59 goals per game. She led the team in ground balls (64) and draw controls (23), and was usually the best defender on the field. Guthrie also added five goals to her repertoire, scoring three times for PSC in the NEWLA championship game.
A two-year veteran for the Panthers after transferring from Colby-Sawyer, Beedy was a key member of the PSC offense. She finished third on the team in scoring with 30 goals and nine assists for 39 points, sharing the team lead in shots on goal (61). In her two seasons, Beedy has moved into ninth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 102 points (72 goals and 30 assists).
In addition, Beedy was helpful in the development of Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) and Robin Hartman (Reisterstown, MD), the Panther freshmen duo who led the team in scoring. Conner (43 goals-5 assists- 48 points) and Hartman (35-10-45) already rank 20th and 21st on the school's all-time scoring list after just one year.
Plymouth State posted a perfect 5-0 regular season mark in NEWLA games, earning the Northern Division crown for the second straight year. The Panthers posted NEWLA play-off victories over Keene State and the University of New England before falling in the championship game at Bridgewater State.
