PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) scored four goals and assisted on three others Monday, leading the Plymouth State College women's lacrosse team to an 18-5 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University at Arold Field.
Wahlen collected three goals and three assists in the first 11 minutes of the game as PSC built an 8-0 lead. The Panthers extended their advantage to 13-0 at halftime before ECSU's Callie McRitchie (Somers, Conn.) broke the Warriors' drought in the opening minute of the second half.
Joining Wahlen in the scoring department for PSC were senior Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) and sophomore Marcia Wood (Sanford, Maine) with three goals apiece.
Sophomore Robin Hartman (Santa Maria, Cal.) and junior Courtney O'Sullivan (No. Kingston, NH) added two goals apiece, and senior Jess Shapiro (Windsor Locks, Conn.), junior Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, Maine) and sophomores Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC) and Janet Conner (South Freeport, Maine) connected on one each.
ECSU junior Stephanie Altman (Voluntown, Conn.), who leads the nation in Division III with 5.67 goals per game, was limited to three goals by the Panther defense. McRitchie and Lindsay Carley (Newtown, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for ECSU.
PSC junior Lisa Goldberg (Newton, Mass.) made seven saves, and freshman Lindsey Breda (Londonderry, NH) came off the bench to make one save in the final 10 minutes. ECSU junior Minnie Vanasse (Pawtucket, RI) made 12 saves.
The Panthers, who have won six of their last seven to improve to 7-3 overall, return to Arold Field Wednesday (4/19) with a key NEWLA encounter against Colby-Sawyer (3:30 p.m.) and Thursday (4/20) with a non-conference match-up vs. Elms (3:30 p.m.). ECSU is now 5-5.
