PSC Women's Lax defeats Colby-Sawyer
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) and sophomore Janet Conner (South Freeport, Maine) each scored four goals Wednesday afternoon, leading Plymouth State College to a 23-11 triumph over Colby-Sawyer College in a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Northern Division contest at Arold Field.
The victory helps Plymouth State remain atop the Northern Division of NEWLA to a 4-0 record. It is the Panthers' seventh win in the last eight games overall, improving their record to 8-3. The loss drops Colby-Sawyer to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in NEWLA Northern Division contests.
For the second game in a row, Wahlen also collected three assists to go along with her four goals. She is now second on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 31 assists.
In addition to Wahlen and Conner, the Panthers got three goals apiece from junior Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, Maine) and senior Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH), and two goals each from junior Courtney O'Sullivan (No. Kingston, NH) and sophomores Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC) and Robin Hartman (Santa Maria, Cal.).
PSC reserves Ali Hoffman (Hancock, NH), Cathleen Yackenchick (Greenfield, Mass.) and Heather Adey (Nashua, NH) rounded out the scoring for PSC, who led 12-6 at halftime and 19-8 midway through the second half.
The Chargers were led by freshman Jessie Wilfert, who scored four goals. Juniors Abby Lefebvre and Willow Taylor and freshman Geri Ellen Matyiko contributed two goals apiece, and senior Sara Burman added one.
PSC junior Lisa Goldberg (Newton, Mass.) made 18 saves, and CSC junior Brooke Morin made 12 saves.
The Panthers are right back at Arold Field Thursday (4/20) with a non-conference encounter against Elms College (3:30 p.m.). Colby-Sawyer returns home Friday (4/21) to host UMass Dartmouth (4 p.m.).
