PSC Women's Lacrosse bombs Castleton
CASTLETON, Vt. - Plymouth State College scored 16 goals before Castleton State College was on the scoreboard Monday, and the Panthers went on to hand the Spartans a 22-2 defeat in a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Northern Division contest.
It was the Panthers' fourth consecutive victory, improving them to 10-3 overall. The triumph also keeps PSC unbeaten in NEWLA divisional games (5-0), and clinches a spot for PSC in the NEWLA play-offs, which begin next week. Castleton State drops to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the division.
Plymouth State got five goals and an assist from scoring leader Robin Hartman (Santa Maria, Cal.) and four goals and two assists from second-leading scorer Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH). Three other Panthers notched two goals and an assist each - Courtney O'Sullivan (No. Kingston, NH), Heather Adey (Nashua, NH) and Megan Wolfley (Maplewood, NJ) -- and Jess Shapiro (Windsor Locks, Conn.) contributed a pair of goals.
The rest of PSC's goal scorers included Janet Conner (South Freeport, Maine), Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, Maine), Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC), Eileen Rice (Nashua, NH) and Ali Hoffman (Hancock, NH).
The Panthers jumped out to an 11-0 advantage by halftime, and led 16-0 before the Spartans got on the board with 14:48 remaining on a goal by Vanessa Macia. It was then 21-1 before Meghan Carey connected for CSC.
PSC junior Lisa Goldberg (Newton, Mass.) made four saves in the first half, and freshman reserve Lindsey Breda (Londonderry, NH) made one second-half save. Castleton goalie Meghan Wendell made 11 saves.
The Panthers are right back in action Tuesday (4/25) when they play another NEWLA divisional contest at Salem State (4 p.m.).
