Post-season honors continue for PSC Lacrosse players

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The honors continue to come in for the top players on the Plymouth State College lacrosse teams.

Senior Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) of the Panther women's team was named to the New England Regional All-America All-Star Team, and junior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) has made Team AOL, a squad that will participate in the prestigious Vail Shoot-Out this summer.

Wahlen led the PSC women's squad in scoring this season with 63 points (38 goals, 25 assists). She led the Panthers to the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Championship and the program's first berth in the NCAA Championships. PSC set a school record for wins in a season, finishing with a 15-4 record.

Martocchio enjoyed an unimaginable season for the Panther men's team, scoring a remarkable 100 points in 16 games. He led the nation in Division III with 86 goals, and set school records for goals in a game (11), season and career (196). He helped the Panthers to a third consecutive Pilgrim League play-off berth, and an overall record of 10-6.

The latest honors follow a series of post-season awards for both Panther student-athletes. Wahlen was named NEWLA First Team All-Star this spring, and was selected Athlete of the Month in April by New Hampshire's largest daily newspaper, The Union Leader. Martocchio was a Pilgrim League First Team All-Star, and was voted Offensive Player of the Year in the Northwest Division of the Pilgrim League. Both also received the prestigious Panther Award from their teams.

The Women's New England Regional All-American Team is dominated by players from private schools. All 16 First Team members and 11 of the 16 Second Team selections are from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Connecticut College, Middlebury, Trinity, Tufts, Williams). The only non-NESCAC picks were Wahlen and one player each from Wellesley, Smith, Babson and Springfield Colleges.

The Team AOL squad that Martocchio is playing for includes top former and current college players from all Divisions from across the country. His teammates come from schools like Delaware, Duke, Loyola, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, Notre Dame, Denison, Syracuse, Yale, Cortland State and Springfield.
