PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The leading scorer on the Plymouth State College women's lacrosse team has been recognized as the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance announced the first weekly honors of the 2001 season.
Freshman Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) was selected NEWLA Rookie of the Week. She led the Panthers to a pair of wins in three games to open the season, including an overtime victory last Thursday at Springfield College.
A freshman midfielder, Sheridan scored 10 goals in PSC's first three games. She tallied two goals in the opening game loss against Wellesley College, then added four goals against both Babson and Springfield. She also added an assist in the Springfield contest. With her early-season output, Sheridan ranks eighth in the 13-team NEWLA in points per game (3.67) and fourth in goals per game (3.33).
The Panthers, 2-1 under first-year head coach Wynne Lobel, are hoping to resume action this week, weather and field conditions permitting. The scheduled home game Thursday against Lasell will be changed, as the schools are hoping to play the game at Lasell or a neutral site.
