PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College advanced to the semifinals of the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Tournament Wednesday with a forfeit victory over Castleton State College.
The Panthers, regular season champions of the NEWLA Northern Division, were heavy favorites over the fourth-place Spartans (2-8). PSC had defeated Castleton State 22-1 earlier this season. But CSC officials notified PSC officials Wednesday that the game would be forfeited.
Plymouth State, now 11-3, will host either third-seeded Southern Maine (5-9) or second-seeded Keene State (8-5) on Friday (May 4) at 4 p.m. at Arold Field. (USM and KSC met on Wednesday) Friday's winner will move on to the NEWLA Championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday (May 6) at the site of the Southern Division winner.
PSC defeated both Southern Maine and Keene State this spring, downing USM, 23-3, and KSC, 15-4. PSC outscored its five divisional foes this season, 106-8, and has captured 22 consecutive NEWLA regular season games, dating back to 1997.
Plymouth State won last year's NEWLA championship over Bridgewater State, and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
