PSC to make 2nd straight NCAA appearance
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State College women's lacrosse players have received top weekly honors as the Panthers prepare for an appearance in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
PSC sophomore Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.) was named New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance Co-Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) was selected Rookie of the Week. They were the two leading scorers as PSC earned consecutive victories over Castleton State, Keene State and Bridgewater State en route to its second consecutive NEWLA Championship.
The Panthers are gearing up for the second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. PSC will travel to Middlebury College on Saturday (May 12) for a regional first-round game (12 p.m.) Plymouth State was defeated last year by Middlebury in its only previous NCAA Tournament appearance, 24-5.
A sophomore attacker, Adey scored five goals and assisted on four others in two games. She had four goals and three assists in the 21-4 win over Keene State, and added a goal and an assist in the 11-9 victory over Bridgewater State. Adey had received Honorable Mention from NEWLA the previous two weeks.
A freshman midfielder/attacker, Sheridan also collected five goals and four assists for PSC last week. She had two goals and two assists against Keene State, and added a team-high three goals and two assists against Bridgewater State. Sheridan, who has been the NEWLA Rookie of the Week four times this spring, netted the game-winner in the championship game, breaking a 9-9 tie with 6:49 remaining.
