Hartman sets record as PSC rolls past WCSU
DANBURY, Conn. - Senior Robin Hartman (Westminster, Md.) became Plymouth State College's all-time women's lacrosse scoring leader Saturday in the Panthers' 18-1 Little East Conference victory over Western Connecticut State University at Midtown Campus Field.
Hartman finished the afternoon with four assists, giving her career totals of 125 goals, 55 assists and 180 points in 56 career outings. She breaks the mark previously held by Terry Galley, who scored 146 goals and 30 assists (176 points) from 1981-85.
PSC had little trouble in winning its fourth straight game to improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Little East. Western Connecticut dropped its LEC opener and remains winless in four games overall. PSC led 8-0 midway through the opening half and held an 11-0 advantage at the break before coasting home with the victory.
Freshman Annmarie Guglielmo (Gansevoort, N.Y.) led PSC Saturday with five goals and two assists, while sophomore Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) contributed four goals and three assists. Senior Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC) and junior Janet Conner (South Freeport, Maine) chipped in with two goals apiece, while single goals were added by juniors Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.), Marushka Eddy (Nantucket, Mass.), Melissa Cotton (Osterville, Mass.), and Julie Shields (Whitby, Ont.) and senior Marcia Wood (Sanford, Maine).
The Warriors got on the scoreboard with 2:56 left in the game when Jillian Brown (Kings Park, N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of the season.
Sophomore Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) made 12 saves in goal to pick up the win in her first appearance of the season for PSC. Katie Brunetti turned away seven shots for the Colonials.
Plymouth State returns home for a tough non-conference game Sunday against Bridgewater State at Arold Field (2:30 p.m.).
