Late goal lifts Bowdoin over PSC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Amanda Burrage (Brookline, Mass.) broke a 9-9 tie with 33 seconds remaining Sunday, giving Bowdoin College a dramatic 10-9 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at Arold Field.

The outcome capped a strong comeback for the Polar Bears. PSC had led 6-4 at halftime and 8-5 with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Bowdoin scored four goals in less than four minutes late in the second half to regain a one-goal lead (9-8) with five minutes on the clock.

This time it was PSC that came back, as senior Robin Hartman (Westminster, Md.) scored her third goal of the game with 1:37 to play to tie it at 9-9, but Burrage's late goal won it for the Polar Bears.

PSC saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end, dropping the Panthers to 10-2 overall. The Polar Bears improve to 8-4.

Bowdoin got two goals apiece from senior Kristi Perine (Middlebury, Vt.), junior Lindsay Powers (Medway, Mass.) and sophomores Elsbeth Pratt (Essex, Mass.) and Shoshana Kuriloff (Philadelphia, Pa.). Senior Beth Sherman (South Windsor, Conn.), who assisted on the game-winner, also scored once for the Polar Bears.

Sophomore Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) led the Panthers with five goals and an assist, reaching five goals in a game for the fifth time this season. She scored three times in the first half and added two more in the second half in addition to assisting on Hartman's game-tying goal. She leads PSC in scoring with 39 goals and 48 points. Sophomore Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) also scored once for the Panthers.

PSC freshman goalie Melissa Gravilla (Andover, N.H.) made 15 saves, while Bowdoin goalie Julia McCombs stopped 11 shots.

Plymouth State wraps up the regular season with a pair of home games this week - Wednesday against UMass Dartmouth and next Sunday (Apr. 28) in a make-up vs. Colby-Sawyer. Bowdoin returns home to host Bates on Wednesday (4:30 p.m.) and Trinity on Saturday (11 a.m.).
