Bowdoin nips PSC in OT

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Junior Amanda Burrage (Brookline, Mass.) scored a goal 45 seconds into sudden death overtime Sunday, lifting Bowdoin College past upset-minded Plymouth State College, 8-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.

The two teams were tied 6-6 at the end of regulation, and deadlocked at 7-7 after the two regulation three-minute overtimes before Burrage's game-winner. The Polar Bears, ranked 17th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, improve to 7-3 overall, while the Panthers drop to 5-3.

Trailing 4-3 at the half, PSC battled back behind five goals from junior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) and one goal from senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.). Sheridan's last goal tied the game at 6-6, sending the contest into overtime.

Sophomore Annmarie Guglielmo (Gansevoort, NY) scored to give PSC a 7-6 lead with six seconds left in the first extra frame. Junior Angela King (Limington, Maine), who finished with five goals for Bowdoin, evened the match with 57 seconds remaining in the second overtime, setting up the sudden death period.

Junior goalkeeper Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) had another strong match in the Panther goal, matching her season high with 20 saves.

The Panthers will be on the road again Thursday with a Little East Conference match-up at archrival Keene State. The start time of that game has been moved to 3:00 p.m.
