PSC too much for Keene State
KEENE, N.H. - Freshman Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) and junior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) tallied five goals and one assists apiece Thursday afternoon, leading Plymouth State College a 16-7 Little East Conference women's lacrosse victory over rival Keene State College.
The Panthers scored the first four goals of the game, and went on to hold a 9-5 lead at halftime. The Owls pulled to within three (9-6) early in the second half, but PSC scored the next five goals to take control of the contest. Plymouth State improves to 6-3 overall and maintains its lead in the LEC at 3-0, while Keene State drops to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
In addition to Brown, PSC got two goals and three assists from junior Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) and two goals from senior Melissa Cotton (Osterville, Mass.). Senior Julie Shields (Whitby, Ont.) and freshman Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) collected one goal apiece.
Sheridan's six-point effort gives her 199 career points, leaving her one shy of becoming the second player in school history to reach the 200-point plateau.
Colleen Murphy (Mansfield, Mass.) finished with three goals and two assists and Natalie Kent (Billerica, Mass.) had two goals to pace the Owls. Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y.) and Lauren Saunders (Fremont, N.H.) also scored for KSC.
Junior Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.), who is the Little East Conference and ECAC New England Goalie of the Week, earned the victory with 11 saves, while KSC's Jamie Litch (Addison, Vt.) made 10 saves for KSC.
After two postponements, the Panthers will finally play their home opener this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Little East Conference contest at Arold Field against Rhode Island College.
