PSU Womens Lacrosse wins first game on California trip
CLAREMONT, Cal. - The Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team picked up a victory Tuesday night in the first game of its spring trip to California, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, 15-8, at Zinda Field. The Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season, while CMS drops to 6-2 this spring.
Sophomore Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) led the Panther offense, matching her career high with five goals. Senior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) contributed three goals and three assists, and senior Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) also collected three goals apiece.
Freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) got things off to a good start for PSU, scoring her first career goal a minute into the contest. It was a 4-1 Panther lead midway through the first half before PSU rattled off five unanswered goals to take a 9-1 advantage into the break.
Sheridan and Brown each scored twice for PSU in the second half as the visitors cruised to the victory. Freshman Susanna Ingalls (Lutherville, Md.) and sophomore Erin Scearcy (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored three goals apiece to lead the Athenas.
Senior Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) stood ground in the Panther net, making 10 saves to earn the victory.
PSU plays another game on the California trip, facing the University of Redlands Thursday at 10:00 p.m. (ET).
