PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference Monday as Players of the Week in the sports of softball and women's lacrosse.
Junior All-America softball player Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) was selected LEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, and senior All-Regional women's lacrosse standout Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) was named LEC Offensive Player of the Week. Both Panther stars have picked up this season from where they left off last spring, when they were the LEC Players of the Year in their respective sports.
A righthanded starter, Jeffs tossed her first-career seven-inning
no-hitter last week against Oneonta State, striking out 14 and
allowing only one walk in a 2-0 victory. The no-no for Jeffs was
her first since an 11-0, five-inning whitewash against Framingham
State a year ago, and adds to her impressive resume which also
includes nine career one-hitters. Jeffs posted a 3-3 record last
week with a 0.87 earned run average and two shutouts, the 28th and
29th of her career. She worked 48.1 innings, allowing 34 hits and
six earned runs while walking only six and striking out 62.
|A top-notch midfielder, Sheridan completed PSU's first three games as the conference scoring leader with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists. She tallied four goals and three assists in the season opener at MIT, added three goals and three assists at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Cal.) and finished the week with four goals and two assists at Redlands (Cal.). Sheridan leads the LEC in points per game (6.33) and assists per game (2.67) and ranks third in goals per game (3.67).|
Both Panther squads have returned to New England and are scheduled for home games this week. The softball team is slated to host doubleheaders at D&M Park against Bowdoin on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.), New England College on Thursday (4:00 p.m.) and LEC foe UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (1:00 p.m.). The women's lax team has road games Monday at Gordon (4:00 p.m.) and Saturday at Western Connecticut (12:00 p.m.) before the home opener on Sunday against Bridgewater State (2:00 p.m.).
