Plymouth State no match for Bowdoin in women’s lax

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team had little trouble defeating Plymouth State University in a non-conference game Sunday, 17-2. The Polar Bears, ranked sixth in the latest national poll, improve to 9-2 this year. The Panthers, who gave ninth-ranked Colby all it could handle in an 11-12 loss last week, didn't have it Sunday and fell to 5-3.

With Bowdoin holding an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Taylor White and Kate Donoghue, sophomore Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) got the Panthers on the board with a goal at 20:26 of the first frame. The Polar Bears would score the next 15 goals and never look back, not allowing another PSU goal until sophomore Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) scored with an assist from junior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) with less than two minutes left in the game.

A season-high 11 players scored for Bowdoin, which surpassed their previous season high of 16 goals against Babson from March. Lyndsey Colburn scored three goals off the bench for the Polar Bears, while Kate Donoghue earned a hat trick as well. Taryn King and Taylor White scored twice apiece, while Jena Davis and Grace Moore each grabbed two assists.

Bowdoin's Kendall Cox saved five shots in 49 minutes, while Kori Lamontage allowed one goal in the final 11 minutes of the contest. PSU sophomore Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.).was credited with nine saves, allowing 13 goals in 43 minutes, and senior Kristin Elliott (Exeter, N.H.) stopped one shot in 17 minutes.

All three of Plymouth State's losses this season have come to schools from the New England Small College Athletic Conference - Bowdoin, Colby and Trinity.

PSU plays its next three games on the road, with the next one coming Wednesday at Colby-Sawyer (3:30 p.m.)
