PSU Women’s Lacrosse standout named LEC Offensive Player of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the starting midfielders on the Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team was recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for her performance in three Panther games last week.

            Junior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was named LEC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week.  She is the first PSU women's lax player to be honored by the Little East this spring.

A 5'3" midfielder, MacDonald (right) finished the week with seven goals, including one game-winner, as well as 15 ground balls and 17 draw controls. She helped PSU post a 2-1 record for the week (2-0 in LEC play), with the only loss coming at the hands of Bowdoin, which was ranked fifth in the nation.

MacDonald scored one goal, along with seven ground balls and five draw controls, in an 18-4 LEC win Thursday over Southern Maine. She tallied four goals, including the game-winner, along with four ground balls and three draw controls, in a key 7-6 LEC win Saturday at defending tournament champion Eastern Conn.; and she scored two goals and collected four ground balls and a season-high nine draw controls Sunday in a 15-7 loss to Bowdoin.

            The 2005 LEC Offensive Player of the Year, MacDonald has continued her outstanding play this season for the Panthers.  She is third on the team in overall scoring with 21 points and second in goal scoring with 16.  MacDonald also leads the Little East in draw controls (3.71 per game) and ranks fourth in the conference in ground balls (4.43 per game).

            The Panthers, 5-4 overall and 3-0 in LEC play, have three contests this week - a home game Thursday against rival Keene State (4:00 p.m.) sandwiched between road games Tuesday at Colby (5:00 p.m.) and Saturday at Rhode Island College (1:00 p.m.)
